Food in School

Fruit Snacks

Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1

Children in Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to receive a free piece of fruit or vegetable each school day as part of the Government’s School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme.

This provides one of their 5 A DAY portions. It also helps to increase awareness of the importance of eating fruit and vegetables and encourages healthy eating habits that can be carried into later life.

One item of fruit or vegetable is provided each day at morning break time.

  • bananas
  • apples
  • pears
  • carrots
  • tomatoes
  • easy-peel citrus fruits, such as satsumas
  • dried fruit – sultanas and raisins.

Key Stage 2

Many children like to eat a snack at morning break time. We encourage them bring an item of fruit or vegetables to eat at break time.

 School Milk

Children under the age of 5 are entitled to a free portion (189ml) of semi skimmed milk each day which is provided by a company called Coolmilk.

Parents / Carers of children aged 5 and over are able to order and pay for milk for their child if they wish. Please use the link below to access the Coolmilk website to register an account. Children who are entitled to Income related Free School Meals are also entitled to a portion of free milk each day. Please contact the school if you wish to register your child for free milk.

School Lunch

Children may bring a packed lunch or order a hot lunch from The Farm Kitchen.  Drinks must be brought in unbreakable containers.  No glass bottles, no fizzy drinks, or ring pull containers and nothing hot either please!

Kirton Primary School is a nut-free school. Please do not send your child with any food containing nuts, such as peanut butter or chocolate-hazelnut spread.
